The dangers of owning an exotic pet became all too real for one mother today as her boyfriend’s pet snake kills her baby girl. Sumter County Sheriff’s authorities confirm that a 8 1/2 foot-long Burmese python snake killed the mother’s 2-year-old girl after the snake escaped from its container and attacked the baby in her room.
Two-year-old baby Shaiunna Hare was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning after Sumter County Sherriff’s Office received an emergency call that a snake killed a baby.
The owner of the Burmese python snake is Charles Jason Darnell. Darnell, 32, who lives in the home with the baby’s mother, Jaren Hare, 19, reportedly told investigators that he put the python in a bag before putting it into a glass cage Tuesday night.
According to Lt. Bobby Caruthers, Darnell woke up Wednesday morning to find the snake missing.
“Wednesday morning he wakes up and discovers the snake missing from its container,” said Caruthers. “He went straight to the infant’s room and he described it as seeing the snake on the baby. He also described a bite mark on her forehead. He started stabbing the snake and removed the child from the room.”

It’s not a dog though, its a snake. Might as well had a pet tiger.
Well first of all it’s not the breed of the dog it’s the owners.And as far as dog bites you have to know the issues of why the dog would bite that person I have 3 dogs and one of them is a Pit Bull we love our pet and he hasn’t ever bite anybody and they get a bad reputation cause they are Pits .. It’s in the raiseing of the Pitt if you teach your Pitt to bite and attach then they will cause they want to please there owner… this person above it’s pretty plain to see they don’t like animals at all .. As far as having a snake in your house I don’t get that but I’m not out there to judge why people have snakes I don’t care for them at all , that’s cause I’m scared of them , people say they won’t hurt you will maybe not but they will make me hurt myself LOL… As long as you keep your pets in a save envorement you should had to have an license that’s just a way to make people give there counties money and I think that needs to be looked at … When people buy pets from a dealer it should go on some sort of record so that incase something happens they will know who owns the animal …People pay good money for there pets and Vets well that’s another expesive for the owner and then they have to make sure there animals are safe inside or out fencing and beding and the list goes on , so we as owner pay enough without having to pay for a license to have the breed you want that’s CRAZY …
Law makers just don’t get it.
The biggest problem with stupid people with pets that
can kill and injure is dog owners, and law makers just
can’t seem to make laws to ban dangerous breeds for some
reason.
They got lions and tigers banned from public ownership
for a reason. Dogs as an example seriously bite about
330,000 people in the USA each year. In Canada here where
I live law makers are too stupid to even keep records
of serious injuries caused by dogs.
How in the world could anyone expect serious laws with snakes
when dogs are all over biting people by the thousands every
day??? Close to a 1,000 serious dog bites per day in the USA
and it seldom gets mentioned in the media, but the media
jumps all over a shark attack or snake attack, something is
really wrong.
