India: Two elderly burned alive accused of witchcraft

Days ago, in northeastern India, two elderly people were burned alive by a group of villagers, accused of black magic practices.

Police instead said “The incident occurred Sunday Rajapara village, situated in the region of Assam, where the locals called a public meeting to determine the cause of many villagers getting sick.

Anil Kumar Deka, police officer said “The shaman, after discussing with the villagers, accused Bishnu Rabha, 65, and his wife, 60, suspected of practicing witchcraft and making many people sick .

The villagers took the old couple to the woods where they were beaten and burned alive.

Their two sons and their daughter managed to leave the house before the arrival of the villagers.

Security personnel began an investigation, though so far there are no arrests.

Police said that “Rabha earned his living practicing traditional medicine” and that “It was a clear case of witch hunts and the investigation continues. We will take harsh measures, in accordance with the law.”

In Assam, during the last five years 250 people died accused of practicing black magic.
