English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, 26, is to appear on BBC1 One’s Strictly Come Dancing this weekend – as a backing singer for her 13 year old goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield. She has signed to Amys own record label.
Dionne Bromfield is the first signing to the Back to Black star’s new record label, Lioness. The pair will stage Bromfield’s first single Mama Said, originally a hit for The Shirelles in 1961.
Bromfield said: “Amy and I both love Strictly… so it was brilliant to find out I’ll be on TV for the first time singing on one of my favourite shows.”
Winehouse, is convinced her goddaughter can have a successful career. “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – such an amazing voice from such a young girl. “She’s so much better than I was at her age.”
Ahead of her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night, Amy paid £35,000 to a clinic in London’s Harley Street to restore her sexy cleavage from 32B to 32D. The Back To Black singer showed off an eye-popping busty outline when she first hit the charts in 2003.
One worker at the London clinic said: “She looks amazing, like a new woman. Amy told us she wanted a new look – it’s all part of her fresh start for her big comeback.”We all feared she’d fallen off the wagon when she came in. Then we saw her bouncing around with these huge boobs which stand out as she’s so tiny and skinny.”
Patients and staff members feared Amy might not be fully recovered for tonight’s show. One patient told The Sun: “She was wandering around in a daze, humming under her breath. She had tubes hanging out of her bust so I asked what she’d had done. She started rambling and said, ‘I’ve had a boob job. I ‘ad ‘em done for Strictly. I wanted to look my best and I’m sick of stuffing hankies down my bra’. “It was hilarious. I didn’t even know she was going on the show – but the way she was when I saw her she was struggling to string a sentence together. “I’ll be amazed if she can sing on TV. She seemed in a hell of a state – completely out of it.”
After years of heroin abuse and struggling with drinking problems with ex husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse has performed live in the UK only once in the past 12 months. In August, the muse for fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, made an unannounced appearance with ska legends The Specials at the V Festival in Essex.
Winehouse, who was born in the Southgate area of Enfield, London, to a Jewish family who shared her love of jazz music, has spent much of the last year living in St Lucia working on the follow up to her multi-award-winning album Back to Black.
