Israel might attack Iran if a nuclear agreement is not reached

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Sunday warned the international community and Iran that Israel will eventually attack Iran’s nuclear facilities if a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis is not found soon.

Speaking to London’s Daily Telegraph, Kouchner said the Israelis “will not tolerate an Iranian [nuclear] bomb. We know that, all of us. So that is an additional risk and that is why we must decrease the tension and solve the problem.”

Kouchner hinted that Israel had been generous in the time it had provided the international community to solve the crisis diplomatically, but warned that eventually the threat will cross a red line and Israel will be compelled to act.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki responded to Kouchner’s warning on Monday by saying that Tehran views the “Zionist regime” as weak and incapable of launching any kind of substantial attack on it’s nuclear facilities.

For his part, Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Monday that arch-foe Israel was too weak to carry out any attack on Tehran’s nuclear sites.

Mottaki’s remarks reported by Mehr news agency came as a team of UN inspectors were conducting checks on Tehran’s recently-revealed second uranium enrichment plant.

Last month’s disclosure of the facility which is being built near the Shiite holy city of Qom had outraged Western powers and Israel.

“We consider the Zionist regime currently to be in its weakest position and we do not see it has such a capacity” to carry out a strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, Mottaki said when a reporter asked him specifically about such a possibility by Israel.
