Jose Rodriguez, former head of SMATA, died

Jose Rodriguez, former head of mechanics union SMATA for 36 years died today at 74,

In 1973 he took over as leader of Machinists and Allied Workers Union of Motor Transport, he resigned in April for health reasons and was replaced by  Mario Manrique.

He belonged to the “Group of 25″, and was one of the leaders who led the first strike against the military dictatorship.

He belonged to the group of  CGT “gordos”, and since earlier this year he  stopped attending meetings of the Governing Board of the labor confederation, which at the Ministry of Industry and Production.

He was sued by one of his daughters, in August, for an alleged fraud in Osmate.

The wake will begin at 11:00 pm at SMATA´s Buenos Aires headquarters in  Belgrano 665.

At 11:00 am tomorrow his remains will be transferred to the private cemetery Jardin de Paz in Pilar, province of Buenos Aires, where he will finally rest.
