The corporal Roberto Villarroel Morales, with 13 years of service and the policeman Jorge Lincaqueo Huanchacura, three years in Chile’s militarized police, made a fake bomb, placed it at the station and told about the presence of the artifact over the phone.
Both were dismissed and will face criminal sanctions.
Commander Marcelo Cáceres, West Prefectural police explained that “The two policemen belonged to police station ‘Rinconada de Maipú”, southwest of Santiago, in a box, they attached wires and a battery and left it in the parking lot of the headquarters.
And that “they then eported the presence of a bomb over the phone, resulting in an operation of the Special Operations Group (Gope), who finally established that it was a fake bomb.”
Then one of them called the captain of the police station to tell him that it was a joke, and the officer reacted ‘with no sense of humor’.
Cáceres added that “It was a very serious offense for which two policemen were dismissed during this morning” and that “It’s a joke that obviously can not be accepted under any circumstances by the institution.”
The two former policemen are available to the military prosecutor and they can still impose unspecified penalties.
Last week in Santiago there were two bombings of bank branches, leaving one guard wounded.
