The Otto Kraause school was evacuated this afternoon as a preventive measure conducted by firefighters and the police because there was a container wtih toxic substances.
The authorities swiftly evacuated the institution and so far they haven’t reported any students injured by the fumes.
Shortly after 4 pm, the Special Risks Brigade from the Police and Civil Defense arrived to the school, located on 650 Paseo Colon. They removed the liquids in order to analyze them. It is thought they are “heavy alcohol”.
A deputy commissioner explained that the substances where in bottles used by the Chemical Laboratory from Otto Krause . As one of these bottles broke, a strong, irritating odour emanated. Then, authorities were alerted.
The evacuation was done at class hours and the procedure took place without major surprises. There was no need to evacuate nearby shops, even though the smell reeked in the area.
