Two elderly people died and 16 others were affected by food poisoning as they were fed with spoiled food in a geriatric centre in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Almagro, which is now under the authorities’ investigation.
Alberto Crescenti, SAME’s director, said that the 60 elderly housed in the centre were transferred, but only 16 of them showed symptoms of gastroenterocolitis, some with blood loss.
Crescenti made clear that the affected are out of danger anyway, and that he’ll keep the report from Food Science to determine the cause of the poisoning.
The dead were two men aged 50 to 90 years old. The tragic fact, whose causes aren’t clear yet, happened in a geriatric located on 495 Gallo.
Experts in Food Science and Infectious Diseases of the Capital are in the institution to carry out an inspection in order to determine the cause of the disorder.
Spokesmen from the Government Control Agency, said that the place was “enabled” and that it had been recently checked.
The police had to block the traffic while the medical personnel carried the patients in ambulances to different health centres.
In turn, Crescenti said he didn’t know whether the food service was outsourced, since there would be the danger that the spoiled food might have been delivered to other places.
