The famous Pirelli calendar will be formally presented today at Old Billingsgate. The bold images were taken by Terry Richardson, who seeks to represent “a return to nature.”
After China, immortalized by Patrick Demarchelier in the 2008 edition, and Botswana, portrayed by Peter Beard last year, 2010 is the year of Brazil and American photographer Richardson, an ‘enfant terrible’ known for his work both provocative and shameless.
Richardson portrays a woman with an engaging naturalness, that plays with stereotypes to dismantle and ironically with the only veil that covers her.
The controversial photographer, like his illustrious predecessors, has chosen a simple type of photography, no retouching, which naturally prevails on technique, and that becomes the key to eliminating excess surface so fashionable today to reveal the essence of women.
Furthermore, the models who took part in this new calendar have been the Australian Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Miranda Kerr, the Hungarian Eniko Mihalik, the Netherlands Marloes Horst, British Lily Cole, Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington’s Georgina Stojiljkovic Serbian and Brazilian Gracie Carvalho and Ana Beatriz Barros.
