Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner is the president with the lowest approval rate in South America. She has the 20% followed by her Paraguayan president Fernando Lugo, with 25%.

They are followed by Daniel Ortega, from Nicaragua, with 30%, and the president from Honduras, Roberto Micheletti, with 33%.

El Salvador’s presdent, Mauricio Funes, is the best rated president in South America, with 85% of favourable opinions in his own country, while the Argentine, Cristina Fernandez, is the worst rated, with the support of just 20% of the Argentines, according to the opinion polls company, Cid-Gallup.

Chilean president Michelle Bachelet was left in the third position with the 80%, followed by Brazilian Lula Da Silva with 77%, and Uruguayan Tabare Vazquez in sixth place, with 71%. The people were questioned about 20 American leaders.

Obama is beaten by presidents such as Colombian Alvaro Uribe, in seventh place with 64%. Evo Morales, from Bolivia, is eight with 57%; Alvaro Colom, from Guatemala, has 55%; Mexican Felipe Calderon has 54%.

The rest of the presidents didn’t reach the 50%, including Dominican Republic’s Leonel Fernandez (47%), Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez (46%), and the Ecuadorian, Rafael Correa (44%).

The study included questions about approval and opinions about the presidents from 20 American countries, including some like Cuba, where according to Cid-Gallup, polls aren’t allowed.

According to Cid-Gallup, history “shows that those leaders with an approval rate lower than 50 points face difficulties to be re-elected. In many cases they find it difficult to keep their own political party in power”.

“In this context, it is interesting to notice that president Chavez counts with the 46% of the approval, which means that the leader is 4 points below the minimum required to keep the governance of his country,” pointed out the company.
