Rapper who defends Somali pirates sings World Cup song

A famous Canadian-Somali rapper, is chosen by World Cup organizers to sing the event’s anthem. His name is K’naan Warsame, who sparked controversy by stating that pirates are just defending their country.

The theme for the event’s official curtain called “Waving Flags” (flags blazing). The song is already a success on the continent and Warsame is expected to become a world famous artist after his presentation.

Anyway, he made strong statements about his country’s pirates who are making news for kidnapping tourists and cargo ships traveling through Somali waters.

“I understand and defend the actions of the pirates, fishermen are only lightly armed to defend the country Robin Hood-style ,” the artist said.

When Coca-Cola announced they’d chosen Somalian rapper K’naan to spearhead the music for their 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa campaign, it immediately put one of the music world’s best-kept secrets firmly in the global spotlight.

Wavin’ Flag: The Celebration Mix is a remix of the original track off K’Naan’s third album, Troubadour, released earlier this year.
