The Argentine won the sixth stage and enlarges his lead in the overall standings in the quads category. Peterhansel came in first in cars, but Carlos Sainz, who was second, is the leader. Spanish Marc Coma, winner of the last edition in motorcycles, finally lived up to his condition and won the series.
Antofagasta and Iquique, all Chilean lands, were the start and finish spots of the sixth stage in what already could be considered a very rough Rally Dakar Argentina – Chile 2010.
Maros Patronelli comfortably leads the standings on his Yamaha after winning a new leg and unless something strange happens he heads straight for the title. The younger of the brothers stopped the clocks at 5:58:50 and leads by 1 hour 26 seconds to his closest competitor, fellow Argentine Jorge Santamarina.
Frenchman Stephan Peterhansel in his BMW won the stage in cars, but Carlos Sainz (VW) was second only 47 seconds later. The Spanish extended his lead in the standings despite not winning any series, with 15 minutes and 24 seconds ahead of Al Attiyah and 17 minutes and 47 seconds over Miller.
While the series in bikes was for the also Spanish Marc Coma with KTM. Cyril Depres came in second. The French is leading the race comfortably. Chilean ‘Chaleco’ Lopez was third.
The start from Antofagasta began after 5 am and competitors first had to perform a junction section of 180 km to the starting point of the free speed special of 418 km through the desert of Atacama.
