NASA is offering interesting discounts. It significantly lowered the price of space vehicles it wants to get rid of: from $ 42 million, now the price is down to only $ 28.8 million.
NASA hopes to spur more demand for the used space shuttles Discovery, Endeavour and Atlantis, set to be sold this fall when they are formally mothballed in favor of newer spacecraft.
The cost includes transportation from Kennedy Space Center to any major airport.
The agency had originally hoped to fetch $42 million apiece for the 30-year-old ships, but after receiving only paltry expressions of interest, it has reduced the price to $28.8 million.
The shuttle sale is geared toward museums, universities, and other educational institutions.
The Enterprise, a test craft that never flew a space mission, may also go on the block.
All potential customers are to give in their requests by Feb. 19, 2010.
NASA, who advertised the space shuttles in December 2008 as well, says assembly of all the shuttles will be required after sale.
