Yesterday evening, the telethon “Hope for Haiti Now” brought together 130 stars on a dozen television channels.

Some of the top musical artists in the world contributed their music to the benefit, in a heartfelt and respectful concert.

Some of the artists present were Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, John Legend, Mary J. Blige, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, Sting, Beyonce, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Hudson, Emeline Michel, Jay-Z, Bono, The Edge, Rihanna, Dave Matthews, Neil Young and Wyclef Jean.

“My country is in great suffering” … Very excited, the Haitian-born rapper Wyclef Jean sang, willing to draw viewers from around the world to give to Haiti.

Mr. Clooney, who has put together these kinds of gala charity drives before, notably the telethon for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, explained to viewers that this was their opportunity to help neighbors in desperate need with “swiftness and expertise.”

Anticipating possible criticism of the artists, the singer of Cold Play, Chris Martin, said their action:
“When something terrible and tragic happens, you must use all your strength, do anything to help. We have no medical skills. Individually, we would be useless on the ground. So the best thing to do is what we do. ”
