The second movie in so many weeks that uses the Bible as a story template — Denzel Washington’s vehicle Book of Eli being the first — Legion takes place mainly in a diner off a deserted highway.
The archangel Michael (a terrific Paul Bettany, channeling contrary to villainous albino monk Silas of “The Da Vinci Code”) falls to Earth to save a child, rather than destroy it. Michael’s actions are surprising considering he avows that God is not too happy with the human race and is bent on its extermination.
The great hope: a baby yet to be born to an unmarried woman working in rundown Paradise Falls. (At least give writers Peter Schink and director Scott Stewart points for the literary reference.) This unknowing Charlie (Adrianne Palicki, TV’s “Friday Night Lights”) labors at a diner owned and operated by Bob Hanson (a wizened Dennis Quaid) and son Jeep (Lucas Black, who quarterbacked under the “Lights” on the big screen).
Jeep digs Charlie, wanting to protect her and the baby. He’ll have his hands full as a final showdown looms right here in Paradise Falls between Michael and his earthly troops against the forces of fellow archangel Gabriel (Kevin Durand), including a cadre of zombies.
Ultimately, the happy couple finds a way out of the desert.
Although the exact date of release in Argentina has not yet confirmed is estimated to reach local cinemas in May.
