Lionel Messi is the most admired foreign athlete in Spain beating Cristiano Ronaldo, who ranks second according to a study by consultancy IMG.

Thus, Messi reached the top position with considering the total approval rate among both men and women.
42% of men voted for him as the athlete with the most positive image, while almost 40% of women did so.
An important fact is that Messi beat Cristiano Ronaldo by a wide gap in Barcelona but in Madrid, the Portugal winger defeated the Argentine by a meager 3% of the vote.
The list also comprises Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, English midfielder David Beckham, Real Madrid’s Kaka, and the moto GP legend Valentino Rossi.
