Diego Maradona returned from his two-month suspension to coach Argentina to a 3-2 win over Costa Rica in a friendly match.
Franco Jara scored a late goal as Argentina, fielding a side made up only of domestic players, beat a young, promissing Costa Rica side.
The match was played in the western Argentine province of San Juan and marked the return of Maradona after serving a two-month ban from FIFA for a foul-mouthed tirade at reporters.
The visitors were no doubt keen to put in a performance in this part of the world after they narrowly missed out on a trip to South Africa at the hands of Uruguay.
Argentina took the lead twice, through Estudiantes midfielder Jose Sosa in the 11th minute and Rosario Central defender Guillermo Burdisso in the 38th minute.
Costa Rica found an equalizer on both occasions: Saprissa midfielder Michael Barrantes scored in the 21st minute and Universidad striker Diego Madrigal tied it again in the 77th minute.
Arsenal’s striker Franco Jara hit the winner for Argentina ten minutes from full time.
Stadium: September 27 (San Juan)
Referee: Carlos Amarilla.
