After the astounding success of “Avatar” in 3-D, Warner Bros is converting its Harry Potter series into 3-D.
Warners has been testing footage from its upcoming “Clash of the Titans” — converted into 3D by an outside vendor — and the tests have gone so well that the studio has decided to release not only “Titans” but also the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in 3D.
Warners refused to confirm the decisions Tuesday, but an announcement on “Titans” — a co-production with studio-based producer Legendary Pictures — is expected by week’s end. Official word on the “Potter” pics also is awaited.
Warner Bros. already toyed with the 3D medium on the last Potter film, but that only included a small segment made for 3D. The cost to convert an entire film to 3D is approximately $5 million, with another $5 million going to pay for the 3D glasses.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which is divided into two parts, has its first part slated to be released this November while second is due for July 2011.
