The National Security Force of Brazil (FNS), a group of elite military-police reporting to the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, began the “Sentinel Operation” and settled at the head of the Friendship Bridge, linking Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) and Foz de Iguazu (Brazil).
Brazilian government sources, reported that “to combat any illegal activities on the border with Paraguay on Itaipu Lake and the River Paraná, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), better known as spy plane will be used.
The spy plane, made in Israel, has a capacity to carry weapons in combat, flying without any human pilot and has range of up to 37 hours of flight, was bought by Brazil last year by approximately four million dollars.
The aircraft has more than 10 feet long, weighs 1250 kilos, 250 kilos of which are equipment, including weather radar.
Hector Lacognata, Foreign Minister of Paraguay informed: ”All initiatives that Brazil has had to fight crime in the border area, are made within the context of the exercise of its sovereignty.”
And that “Paraguay has been informed in good time, even in many of these military tasks, there is participation of Paraguayan officials who were invited in these actions.”
