A lawyer for Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s personal physician, said that the Houston-based doctor is in Los Angeles and prepared to surrender if authorities file charges against him in the singer’s death.
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has drafted a criminal complaint and is ready to file it against Murray.
Dr Murray has admitted administering propofol to Jackson on the day he died to help him sleep but he maintains the amount, 25 milligrams, was small and would not have been fatal.
Dr Murray travelled to Los Angeles at the weekend and spent Tuesday afternoon meeting with his newly assembled team of three lawyers.
The district attorney’s office has not said if it will file charges, but defence lawyer Ed Chernoff said Dr Murray is ready for such a move.
“I haven’t received any phone call from anybody asking for the doctor to surrender,” Mr Chernoff said.
“If the cops want him he’s not hiding. We’ll be happy to surrender him and they know that.”
Murray acknowledged administering the anesthetic propofol to Jackson shortly before his death June 25, according to police affidavits.
An autopsy classified Jackson’s death as a homicide and said the cause was “acute propofol intoxication” in combination with the use of sedatives.
