The Biomedical NeuroEngineering Group of the University Miguel Hernandez de Eleche did a research in which they try to control the computer with the human mind. Nowadays this action is limited and the speed is slow but one of the researchers, Eduardo Fernandez said that “the future is bright due to the technological developments.”
José Maria AzorÃn, another team member explained that: “The system is relatively simple, for example, if the user wants to write on the computer all he has to do is to focus on the virtual keyboard keys displayed on the screen.”
And adds that: “after a specific number of visual stimuli, the software, to which the user is connected via electrodes, analyzes the EEG signals, being able to determine the pattern to which the attention was focused”.
And that “A similar thing happens when he wants to move the mouse. When the person focuses on one direction, which is displayed on the monitor, the pointer moves.
Researchers will design a system that suits the specific needs of each person, especially those with motor or sensory disabilities.
On this issue, Eduardo Fernandez said: “The aim is to prioritize the development of useful applications: as a warning to caregivers, or turn off and on the light.”
