School year 2010 begins today in most schools of the country

Students in Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Corrientes, Chubut, Entre Rios, Formosa, La Rioja, Mendoza, Misiones, Rio Negro, Salta, San Juan, Santiago del Estero and Santa Cruz will return today to the classrooms.
On Monday, February 22 classes began in Neuquen and Catamarca, while in Tucuman, San Luis and La Pampa the start will be on Monday March 8.
In Santa Fe, Jujuy and Tierra del Fuego, teacher unions decided not to start classes in the absence of wage increases. In these provinces, a strike of at least 72 hours is on progress and classes would start next Thursday.
The Government expects to reach the minimum of 180 instructional days provided by law.
In some provinces in which classes are now beginning, there may be conflicts later in the year for wage issues.
In Chubut, the Association of Educational Workers of Chubut (Atech) announced the launch of a joint negotiation with the provincial Ministry of Education scheduled for Wednesday, and declared a state of alert and mobilization.
In San Juan, is still pending the decision of the unions wether to accept or reject the offered wage increase, which would be decided tomorrow by the teacher unions.
In Misiones, the largest unions will work today while some smaller ones will go on strike.
In Catamarca, there is a ‘truce’ until mid-year between the unions and the government of the province, although the Ministry of Education predicted that the province may not be able to grant the second wage increase announced for July by the National Government.
