Isner lost, but left his name in Wimbledon history

John Isner looked completely drained of energy as he crashed out in his second round in just one hour 14 mins after beating Nicolas Mahut in the longest match ever.
His exploits over the previous three days took their toll as Isner lost 6-0 6-3 6-2 to Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker, a player 30 places below him in the world rankings.
Isner called for a medical timeout for treatment to his neck and shoulders after losing the opening set 6-0 in only 16 minutes.
Despite eating bananas and bars the exhausted 23rd seed simply couldn’t muster the energy to mount a serious challenge against his Dutch opponent.
Isner, who fought hard in his marathon match against Nicolas Mahut for three days, received an extremely warm reception from the crowd at the start of his match Friday, but he never got his momentum going.
Isner, not unexpectedly, pulled out of the doubles competition. His partner, Santa Monica’s Sam Querrey, was fine with that. “I never expected him to play,” Querrey said.
De Bakker had needed a 16-14 fifth set to win his first-round match. “But that’s nothing any more,” he joked.
He said he felt bad for Isner: “You know he’s struggling. In the first set, he didn’t try at all. In the second set, he was trying a little bit better, in the third also.”
