Two rival factions fighting for control of Honduras have begun talking days before a meeting that many hope will end a political crisis sparked by Central America’s first coup in more than a decade.

OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, will arrive in the country today, beginning a tour which alsoincludes Chile and Paraguay, where he will meet President Lugo.

The foreign ministers’ mission from the Organization of American States (OAS) arrived on Monday in Tegucigalpa to try to solve the political crisis in Honduras after the June 28 coup.

The Honduran de facto government has agreed to accept the delegation from the Organization of American States after initially rejecting the mission.

Interim President Roberto Micheletti is willing to reschedule the delegation’s visit, previously planned for Tuesday as long as Organization of American States chief Jose Miguel Insulza is excluded, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Coup leaders in Honduras have announced they are pulling out of the Organization of American States.

The head of the Organization of American States Jose Miguel Insulza is to arrive in Honduras Friday to demand that Zelaya be returned to power.

Members of the Organization of American States gave the interim government in Honduras 72 hours to reinstate democracy or face possible suspension in a resolution approved on Wednesday.
